Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum – Boston, Massachusetts – 2025

The design team selected Luxam’s 3W and 6W micro-LED luminaires to refine the gallery illumination at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, ensuring improved clarity while preserving the intimate, atmospheric character that defines the historic palazzo. Working within a highly protected architectural environment, Abernathy Lighting Design, a studio of Eos Lightmedia, with Jason J. Rainone, CLD, IALD, LEED AP, as lead designer, implemented discreet lighting upgrades that remain visually subtle and historically sensitive. Light levels were calibrated to enhance color accuracy, reveal surface detail, and support curatorial intent without disturbing the Gardner’s distinctive interplay of light and shadow.

The resulting illumination enhances visitor experience while maintaining the museum’s unique character. Artworks appear more legible and vibrant, yet the environment retains the depth, warmth, and mood intended by Isabella Stewart Gardner more than a century ago.
